Aha, I can see the likeness from the color scheme as well, though the colors were selected more because they generally facilitate texturing and detailing, and I didn't have an overlying concept that required a different selection of colors, so I kept them.
Thank you very much for the comment; this particular color scheme is very versatile, and is one that I often use as a test scheme when checking color distribution in fractals I create. I'm glad that people seem to enjoy how it looks, although I personally am not quite as attached to it as I am to some of my other artwork.
It is entirely digital, though I always consider it very satisfying to hear people mistake the texture, depth, lighting, and motion likened to painted artwork. My goal is to make artwork that pushes the limits of the medium that I am working with, and being able to break the barrier of "what type of art is it?" makes me feel like I have accomplished something.
